History
RAST Foundation is registered in Pakistan as Rafia Anam Siddiqui Welfare Foundation under societies Act XXI of 1860 (Registration number KAR NO 132 – 2014-2015). It is a non-profit organization established in 2013. A group of citizens formed this institution in response to the dire need for improving the educational system in developing countries such as Pakistan.
As of 2019, BTPD has successfully trained more than 500 teachers free or at nominal cost with the help of dedicated faculty and volunteers in Karachi. In comparison, similar training would cost Rs.60,000 – Rs.150,000 per participant in a commercially operated training centre. This amount is out of reach for most teachers, whose median salary is Rs.7000 – Rs.15,000 per month.
Another ongoing project ‘KAMAAN’ is in the inception stage, which will bridge and facilitate access to international scholarships. Moreover, RAST also plans to develop and promote virtual libraries for the general public to promote reading and enhance intellect under the umbrella of project ‘IQRA’.
Vision
RAST Foundation aims to eradicate illiteracy and bring Age of Reasoning to developing countries like Pakistan. RAST management believes that education is an empowering process that allows and guides individuals to develop their passions for learning, critical thinking and moral orientation.
Educating the masses would benefit not only the respective person but also the State and humanity in general.
The Founders firmly believe that: “Every individual has a right to proper education regardless of Race, Gender, Religion, Sexual Orientation, Disabilities, Culture, Age, Social Background or Special Educational Needs.
